Dimasa National Liberation Front (DNLA)

Five persons were killed and seven trucks were set on fire by suspected extremists at Umrangso in Dima Hasao district in central Assam on August 26, 2021.

  • Members of the Dimasa National Liberation Front (DNLA) are suspected to be behind the attack, the first such attack since May 14, 2021 when two were killed in a grenade blast in Digboi in eastern Assam.
  • As per the information, DNLA is being propped up by the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland as a front to carry out extortion in Assam.
  • The Dimasa tribe is an indigenous, ethno-linguistic community living in Assam and Nagaland.
  • The Dimasa peoples are the inhabitants of North Cachar Hills Autonomous District Council (now Dima Hasao), Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council, Cachar District, Nagaon District of Assam and the Dhansiri region of Nagaland State.
  • According to the CENSUS 2011,the (Dimasa) Kacharis belong to the Indo-Mongoloid (Kirata) group which includes the Bodos and their allied tribes.
