- The Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Raghubar Das on 20 February 2018 announced to built the world’s tallest ‘Buddha’ stupa at Itkhori in Chatra District, Jharkhand. He announced the decision while inaugurating the Itkhori Mahotsav.
- As per the CM, master plan would be ready by March and detailed project report would be ready by July.
- At present, the 104 feet Buddhist stupa built by King Ashoka at Kesaria in East Champaran district of Bihar is said to be the World’s largest Buddhist Stupa.
- Itkhori Mahotsav: It is a three-day festival held on the premises of Maa Bhadrakali temple in Itkhori block of Chatra.
About Itkhori and Bhadrakkali Temple
- Historical evidences of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism have been found at this place.
- It is said that the idol of Bhadrakali was made during the period of the Raja Mahendra Pal of the Pala Dynasty of Bengal.
- This temple is one of the fifty one Shakti Peeths in Indian subcontinent.
- In 2012, the Archeological Survey of India has excavated an ancient Jain idol from beneath the temple compound.. A pair of foot prints which lies here are said to be of the 10th Tirthankara Sheetal Nath.
- As per Dr. Gierson’s notes on Gaya District, the reference of the Buddhist stupa at the Bhadrakali temple complex is also mentioned.
