The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on March 4, 2018 addressed a State Level Youth Convention at Tumakuru, Karnataka.
- Theme: The theme of the convention is, ‘Youth Power: A vision for New India’.
- Purpose: The Convention at Tumakuru is being organised to mark the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, Tumakuru, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s address in Chicago (1893), as well as celebrate Sister Nivedita’s 150th birth anniversary.
About the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, Tumakuru
- A small group of youths in Tumkur started a forum, Vivekananda Vichara Vedike, on January 12, 1991 with an objective of providing social service and imparting spiritual education.
- This forum was converted into an independent centre on November 22, 1992 and was called Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Ashram under the guidance of Swami Purushottamanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Belgaum.
- The annual “Jeevanta Durga Puja” is the ashram’s main programme.
