- The 29th International Yoga Festival was inaugurated by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on 1 March 2018 at Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. The festival will be officially inaugurated by the Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiya Naidu on March 3.
- The International Yoga Festival is organised by Parmarth Niketan Ashram in association with the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board & GMVN.
- The International Yoga Festival was originally a creation of Uttar Pradesh Tourism, in the days when Rishikesh was still part of Uttar Pradesh.
- Held at Hotel Ganga Kinare in the first week of February, the Festival ran for many years and attracted a small number of participants.
- In 1999, the Government of Uttar Pradesh approached Parmarth Niketan Ashram to host the Festival at the ashram.
