The construction of the entire 1,337 kilometres of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, EDFC, has been completed.

- The first freight train powered by electric traction from New Sahnewal in Ludhiana to New Khurja via New Khatauli station in Uttar Pradesh was run on October 11 across a stretch of 401 km.
- The Ministry of Railways has taken up the construction of two Dedicated Freight Corridor – the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
- The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor connects Ludhiana (Punjab) to Sonnagar (Bihar).
- The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor connects Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal to Dadri.
- The average speed of goods trains in Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor will be 50 to 60 kilometres per hour. Generally, on Indian Railways route, the average speed of goods train is 20 to 30 kilometres per hour.
