Cladonotus bhaskari-A new grasshopper species

Cladonotus bhaskari-a new species of ‘twighopper’ or pygmy grasshopper has been discovered after 116 years by Croatian and German researchers in the rainforests of Sri Lanka.

It has been named after Kerala orthopterist (grasshopper expert) Dhaneesh Bhaskar.

The new species hails from Cladonotus genus.

It is the first new Cladonotus species in the last 116 years.

The discovery is based on a single specimen of the species photographed in 2016 by Tom Kirschey in its natural rain forest habitat in Sri Lanka.
