Christine Elizabeth Wormuth- first female secretary of the US Army

Christine Elizabeth Wormuth was confirmed by the Senate on May 27 to be the first female secretary of the US Army.

  • She is the second woman named to a top Pentagon role by Biden. The deputy secretary of defence is Kathleen Hicks.
  • She is the first woman in U.S. history to ascend to the Army’s top civilian post.
  • She also was a member of the Biden administration’s Pentagon transition team.
  • She served as undersecretary of defense for policy — the Pentagon’s top policy role — from 2014 to 2016 during the Obama administration.
