China launches world’s first Earth-science satellite dedicated to UN 2030 Agenda

China on November 5, 2021 successfully launched a Guangmu Earth-science satellite via a Long March-6 carrier rocket from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.

  • According to the Global Times, Guangmu is the world’s first Earth-science satellite dedicated to serving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda upon the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful rights of the People’s Republic of China in the UN.
  • Guangmu, developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will carry out precision analysis of energy consumption, habitat patterns and coastal areas in the vicinity of human populations, and provide data for sustainable development indicators.
