China launches world’s first 6G satellite

China on November 6, 2020 launched a Long March 6 rocket, successfully sending 13 satellites into orbit.

Rocket: The Long March 6 lifted off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center carrying 10 remote sensing satellites for Satellogic, an Argentine imagery company.

Satellites: Each 90-lb. (41 kilograms) satellite carries multispectral and hyperspectral imaging payloads. They have been designed to operate in orbit for at least three years. Satellogic has previously received funding from Chinese tech giant Tencent.

First 6G satellite: China has reportedly also launched the world’s first 6G satellite onboard Long March 6. As per the reports, the technology is expected to be over 100 times faster than 5G. The 6G satellite was among three Chinese satellites successfully launched into orbit. The UESTC (also known as Tianyan-05) remote sensing satellite has been jointly developed by new Chinese commercial satellite companies ADAspace and MinoSpace.
