Charudutt Mishra wins Whitely Gold Award

Snow leopard expert and wildlife conservationist Charudutt Mishra was awarded the Whitely Gold Award on April 27, 2022. Six other conservationists were awarded prizes during The 2022 Whitley Awards Ceremony.

About Charudutt Mishra

  • Charudutt Mishra won the Whitley Gold Award for his contribution to involvement of indigenous people in conservation and recovery of enigmatic big cat species in high mountain ecosystems of Asia.
  • The award was presented to him at London’s Royal Geographic Society by Princess Anne.
  • This is his second Whitley Fund for Nature Award after 2005.
  • According to WFN, Mishra was given the award for his work in 12 snow leopard range countries.
  • Mr Mishra is the first international Executive Director of the Snow Leopard Trust (SLT), founded and headquartered in Seattle in 1981.
  • Snow Leopard Trust (SLT) is the largest and oldest organisation dedicated to promoting ecosystem and wildlife conservation across the high mountains of South and Central Asia, with the endangered snow leopard as the flagship.
  • Charudutt Mishra was also instrumental in helping establish the intergovernmental Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Programme.
  • In 2016 Charudutt Mishra published the PARTNERS Principles with funding from WFN and other organisations to conserve snow leopard.
