Centre of Excellence for Zero Emission Trucking (CoEZET)

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras) is planning to develop a cutting-edge Sustainability Campus on a 100-acre site in Auroville, Puducherry, with 20 acres out of this dedicated to the Centre of Excellence for Zero Emission Trucking (CoEZET).

  • The objective of the move is to intensify efforts to accelerate India’s transition to electric trucking as trucks currently contribute to 45 per cent of the country’s transport emissions.
  • CoEZET aims to be a nodal agency for policy and strategy in the electric trucking sector.
  • As per the institute, trucks account for 45 per cent of India’s fuel consumption and emissions. Electrifying this sector is not just an environmental necessity—it’s critical for India’s energy security.
