A team of Indian astrophysicists, have discovered the ‘oldest sky chart with supernova record’ in the Burzahom region of Jammu-Kashmir.
-This record are said to be 5000 years old.
-Three researchers from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) have claimed it the first human records of Supernova. The three researchers are; Hrishikesh Joglekar, M N Vahia and Aniket Sule.
-The rock carving depicts a hunting scene along with two very bright objects (either the Sun and the Moon or two bright stars) in the sky. The two objects in this scene have been interpreted as either the Sun and the Moon or two bright stars in close proximity. Here we investigate the possibility that this could be a record of a guest star or supernova in the sky.
-The research paper, published in Indian Journal of History Sciences, says, that ‘The rock carving found in Burzahama region in Kashmir, India, depicts what is conventionally believed to be a hunting scene along with two very bright objects in the sky. The two objects in this scene have been interpreted as either the Sun
and the Moon or two bright stars in close proximity. Here we investigate the possibility that this could be a record of a guest star or supernova in the sky.’
What is a Supernova: According to NASA, a supernova is the explosion of a star. It is the largest explosion that takes place in space. Johannes Kepler discovered the last observed supernova in the Milky Way in 1604.z
