Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab 2022

Bhartiya Janata party (BJP) has retained power in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has swept Punjab assembly polls.

Uttar Pradesh

  • Elections were held from 10 February to 7 March 2022 in seven phases to elect all 403 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The results were declared on 10 March 2022.
  • In Uttar Pradesh, BJP has been given a historic second successive term in office.
  • BJP has secured majority by winning 255 seats in 403-member Assembly. Its alliance partners Apna Dal (Soneylal) has won 12 seats, while Nishad has secured six seats.
  • Samajwadi Party has won in 111 seats. Its allaince partners RLD has won eight while Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party six seats. Jansatta Dal Loktantrik has secured two seats. Congress has won two seats while BSP just one.
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has won Gorakhpur Urabn seat with a massive margin of over 1,03000 votes against his nearest rival and SP candidate Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla.

Uttarakhand

  • Elections were held on 14 February 2022 to elect 70 members of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. The results were declared on 10 March 2022.
  • In Uttarakhand, BJP has secured absolute majority by securing 47 seats in 70-member Assembly. The Congress has bagged 19 seats. BSP and Independents have won two seats each.
  • Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, former Congress Chief Minister Harish Rawat, AAP leader Ajay Kothiyal have been defeated.

Goa

  • Legislative Assembly elections were held in Goa on 14 February 2022 to elect 40 members of the Goa Legislative Assembly. The results were declared on 10 March 2022.
  • In Goa, the BJP has won 20 seats in the 40 member Assembly while the Congress has secured 11 seats. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Aam Aadmi Party have won two seats. Trinamool Congress failed to open its account in Goa, despite securing 5.21 percent votes.

Manipur

  • Legislative Assembly elections were held in Manipur from 28 February to 5 March 2022 in two phases, to elect 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The results were declared on 10 March 2022.
  • In Manipur, BJP has secured majority by winning 32 seats in 60-member Assembly. It has received 37.83 percent of votes.
  • National People’s Party (NPP) got seven seats with 17.29 percent of polled votes. Janta Dal (United) won six seats with 10.77 percent votes. The Congress managed to win five seats with 16.83 percent votes. Naga People’s Front got five seats out of the ten seats they contested. Kuki People’s Alliance has won two seats.
  • Three Independent candidates have also won the Assembly seats.
  • Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh won from Heingang seats beating Congress candidate.

Punjab

  • The Legislative Assembly elections were held in Punjab on 20 February 2022 to elect the 117 members of the 16th Assembly of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The results were declared on 10 March 2022.
  • In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party has won Assembly Elections with a thumping majority. It has secured 92 seats in 117-member Assembly.
  • Congress has managed to win just 18 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal three and BJP two. The BSP and Independent have won one seat each.
