Cheti Chand, Sajibu Cheiraoba, Ugadi and Navreh

The President Shri Ram Nath Kovind and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in their messages greeted the people on the Puthandu Pirappu, Rongali Bihu, Naba Barsha and Vaisakhadi, which is being celebrated in different parts of the country on 14th and 15th April, 2021.

  • These New Year festivals celebrated in various ways in different parts of our country with renewed hopes and enthusiasm, symbolize our diversity and pluralistic tradition. These festivals also denote respect towards our farmers’ tireless hard work.
  • The Prime Minister also greeted people on Cheti Chand, particularly to the Sindhi Community.
  • He also conveyed Sajibu Cheiraoba greetings to the people of Manipur. Sajibu Cheiraoba is observed in April by the Meitei people on the first day of the lunar month Shajibu.
  • Gudi Padwa or Ugadi was celebrated on April 13 as people in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh welcomed the New Year by placing a Gudi and outside their door or window.
  • The New Years festival Navreh, coinciding with Cheti Chand, Ugadi and Bohag Bihu, is mainly celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir by Kashmiri Pandits.
