Indian-origin Anil Soni has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for the WHO Foundation.
- Global health expert Soni will assume his role as its inaugural CEO on January 1, 2021.
- Mr. Soni has spent two decades in service of communities affected by HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
- As the CEO of WHO Foundation, Soni will accelerate the Foundation’s work to invest in innovative, evidence-based initiatives that support WHO in delivering on its mission to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.
What is WHO Foundation?
- The WHO Foundation was announced on May 27th, 2020.
- Both WHO and the WHO Foundation are headquartered in Geneva, but the Foundation is legally independent from WHO.
- Prof. Dr. Thomas Zeltner is the Founder and Chair of the Board.

- It’s role is to support the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) mission both directly and by supporting WHO’s network of partners on the ground.
