Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj passed away on August 17, 2020 at his home in New Jersey, USA. He was 90.

He was born in Haryana in 1930.
Pandit Jasraj belonged to the Mewati Gharana.
The musical career of Pandit Jasraj spanned over eight decades.
Although he belonged to the Mewati gharana, a school of music known for its traditional performances of khayals.
He sang khayals with some flexibility, adding elements of lighter styles, including the thumri.
He has also lent vocals to Oscar winning movie ‘Life of Pi’.
He was honoured with Padma Shri in 1975, Padma Bhushan in 1990 and Padma Vibhushan in 2000.
He was given the Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1987.
A minor planet, between Mars and Jupiter, was also named after ‘Pandit Jasraj’, the doyen of Indian classical vocal music. The minor planet 2006 VP32 (number -300128) , discovered on November 11, 2006 , was named as ‘Panditjasraj’.
