Al-Aqsa mosque site
- The Al-Aqsa mosque complex in Jerusalem’s Old City is one of Islam’s most revered locations. Muslims call this complex as Haram al-Sharif but its location is also the holiest site in Judaism, known as the Temple Mount.
- The site is part of the Old City of Jerusalem, sacred to Christians, Jews and Muslims.
- The Al-Aqsa mosque is believed to have been completed early in the 8th century and faces the Dome of the Rock, the golden-domed Islamic shrine that is a widely recognized symbol of Jerusalem.
- The UNESCO has classified the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls as a World Heritage Site
