Ajay Bhalla named new Manipur Governor

The recent gubernatorial appointments and reshuffle by President Droupadi Murmu, announced on December 24, bring significant changes in five Indian states.

New Governors

  1. Ajay Bhalla: The former Union Home Secretary has been appointed as the Governor of Manipur.
  2. General V. K. Singh (Retd.): The former Union Minister has been made the Governor of Mizoram.
  3. Arif Mohammed Khan: The current Governor of Kerala has been transferred to Bihar.
  4. Raghubar Das: The Governor of Odisha has resigned, and his position is now filled by Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the incumbent Governor of Mizoram.

Constitutional Provisions Related to Governors:

  • Article 155: The Governor of a state is appointed by the President of India through a warrant under their hand and seal.
  • Article 156: A Governor holds office at the pleasure of the President.
