AIIMS is developing an AI-enabled device ‘Colposcope’

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS New Delhi is developing an Artificial Intelligence enabled device named Colposcope for the screening of cervical cancer in women.

Key points

  • The images captured by the device will help detect the cancer of cervix.
  • This device can be carried out by Healthcare workers in the field for the diagnosis of this disease.
  • Cervical cancer occurs due to Human Papiloma Virus, HPV infection.
  • Every year, an estimated one lakh 20 thousand women develop cervical cancer and over 77 thousand women die due to this disease in India.
  • This cancer can be prevented by administering HPV vaccine.
  • India has recently developed Made in India HPV vaccine- CERVAVAC.
