The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for signing and ratification of an Agreement on “Cooperation in the field of Mass Media” between all the Member States of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
- The Agreement was signed in June, 2019.
- The Agreement shall promote equal and mutually beneficial cooperation among associations in the field of Mass Media. Each Side shall, on the basis of reciprocity, facilitate the activities thereby ensuring equity.
- The Agreement would provide an opportunity for the Member States to share best practices and new innovations in the field of Mass Media.
About Shanghai Cooperation Organisation
- The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation, the creation of which was announced on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. It was preceded by the Shanghai Five mechanism.
- The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Charter was signed during the St.Petersburg SCO Heads of State meeting in June 2002, and entered into force on 19 September 2003.
- In June 2017 in Astana full membership status was granted to India and Pakistan.
