US President Donald Trump on August 13, 2020 announced that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic relations as part of a new peace deal.
The deal called “Abraham Agreement” is the first of its kind since Israel and Jordan signed a peace treaty in 1994.
Under the agreement, Israel would suspend its plans to annex parts of the West Bank.
The United Arab Emirates has become the first Gulf Arab country to reach a deal on normalising relations with Israel. Until now Israel has had no diplomatic relations with Gulf Arab countries.
The UAE is also the third Arab nation to reach such a deal with Israel, after Jordan and Egypt.
