The 91st Sivagiri pilgrimage began in at Sivagiri, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) on December 30. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the event.
- The Chief Minister said that the great social reformer Sree Narayana Guru had given permission for the Sivagiri Pilgrimage to strengthen the sense of unity based on humanity, eliminating all caste differences that divide people.
About Sivagiri Pilgrimage
- Sivagiri Pilgrimage is held every year for three days from December 30 to January 1 at Sivagiri, Thiruvananthapuram.
- These days thousands of pilgrims in yellow attire from different parts of Kerala gather at the Samadhi of the Guru, who propagated his concept, “One Caste, One Religion and One God.’’
- The first pilgrimage was conducted on January 1, 1933 and was attended by only five pilgrims.
- Now it has grown into a huge pilgrimage with devotees arriving from across the world.
- Sivagiri Mutt is also the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham, an organization of the great reformer Sree Narayana Guru’s disciples and followers.
- It is here that the social reformer and sage Sree Narayana Guru breathed his last in 1928.
