French director Justine Triet has won this year’s (76th) Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for L’anatomie d’une chute (Anatomy of a Fall), becoming only the second solo female director in history to win the Palme d’Or, following Julia Ducournau’s win in 2021 for Titane.
- However, she is only the third woman to win the Palme d’Or (after Jane Campion for “The Piano” and “Titane” helmer Julia Ducournau, who joined Östlund on the jury this year).

About Festival de Cannes
- The Festival de Cannes is now the world’s most prestigious film gathering, as well as its most widely publicised cultural event
- The 1st annual Cannes Film Festival was held from 20 September to 5 October 1946 in Cannes, France. The 1946 social-realistic film Neecha Nagar (Chetan Anand film) became the first Indian film to gain recognition at the Cannes, after it was awarded Palme d’Or at the first Cannes.

- The Marché du Film is one of the largest film markets in the world. The very first Marché du Film took place in 1959 in a tiny canvas screening room perched on the roof of the old Palais Croisette.
- It was the 13th edition of the Festival de Cannes, the very first international cultural event to launch in the post-war period that soon became an unmissable event for film industry professionals.
- India was the official Country of Honour at the Marche’ Du Film, organized alongside the 75th edition of Cannes Film Festival, in France in 2022.
