Representatives from 28 countries and the European Union adopted the ‘New Delhi Declaration’ of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI, pronounced g-pay).
- India was the host country for the summit. India will chair the GPAI grouping in 2024.
- The ministerial declaration affirms the countries’ commitment to “principles for responsible stewardship of trustworthy AI rooted in democratic values and human rights and promoting trustworthy, responsible, sustainable and human-centred use of AI.
- The declaration agreed to collaboratively develop AI applications in healthcare and agriculture, as well as including the needs of the Global South in development of AI.
- The declaration also saw participating nations agree upon using the GPAI platform to create a global framework on AI trust and safety,
About Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI)
- The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) is a multi-stakeholder initiative which aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice on AI by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities.
- Launched in June 2020 with 15 members, today GPAI’s membership has expanded to 28 member countries and the European Union (EU).
- As one of the founding members of GPAI in 2020, the current incoming Support Chair of GPAI, and the Lead Chair for GPAI in 2024, India hosted the Annual GPAI Summit in New Delhi from December 12-14, 2023.
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi o 12th December.
