The 18th Lok Sabha election saw a total voter turnout of 65.79%, the Election Commission of India said on 6 June.
- The final voter turnout in the 2019 election was 67.40 %. Lakshadweep recorded the highest voter turnout at 84% followed by Assam at 81%. The lowest turnout was recorded in Bihar at 56.19%.
- Uttar Pradesh (56.92%) and Mizoram (56.87%) were the other low turnout states.
- Total of 64.2 crore voters had exercised their franchise in this election.
- The counting of votes commenced on June 4, 2024, starting at 8 AM marking a pivotal moment in determining the country’s future leadership.
- The NDA has won 293 seats, while the Opposition INDIA bloc has got 234 seats. The BJP got 240 seats, Congress got 99, Samajwadi Party 37 seats and All India Trinamul Congress got 29 seats.
- The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the 2024 General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim on March 16, 2024.
- The elections, including certain bye-elections, were conducted in seven phases, ensuring a smooth and comprehensive electoral process across the vast and diverse country.
