17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on January 9, 2023.

  • The Prime Minister released a commemorative postal stamp ‘Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen’ and also inaugurated the first-ever digital PBD Exhibition on the theme ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Contribution of Diaspora in Indian Freedom Struggle’.
  • Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is the flagship event of the Government of India that provides an important platform to engage and connect with overseas Indians and enable the diaspora to interact with each other.
  • The theme of PBD 2023 Convention was ‘Diaspora: Reliable partners for India’s progress in Amrit Kaal’.

India and UK Young Professionals Scheme

  • India and the U.K. marked Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 9 by kicking off the Young Professionals Scheme, which will permit up to 3,000 of their degree ­holding citizens aged between 18 and 30 to live and work in each other’s countries for a period of two years.
  • The launch of the scheme, which was conceived as part of an India- U.K. Migration and Mobility MoU signed in May 2021, was announced in November 2022 at the G20 summit in Bali, where U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
