The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the 16th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD) Convention on January 9, 2021.
- Theme: The theme of 16th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas Convention 2021 was “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.
- Chief Guest: The President of the Republic of Suriname Mr. Chandrika persad Santokhi was the Chief Guest of the PBD 2021.
- SWADES: During his address, The Prime Minister Modi said that there has been initiative of ‘Skilled Workers Arrival Database for Employment Support’ (SWADES) for returning immigrants from Gulf and other area. He also talked about Global Pravasi Rishta portal for better connectivity and communication with the Pravasi Bhartiyas.
- Youth PBD: The Youth PBD was also celebrated virtually on the theme “Bringing together Young Achievers from India and Indian Diaspora” on 8 January 2021.
- Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is the flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs and provides an important platform to engage and connect with the overseas Indians.
